When?

With the city selling a chunk of its land for cash and the street sweeping crew being sold to the garbage company for cash its clear that Blair King is just selling off pieces of our town to build a bank account. WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO OBJECT? WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO DO SOMETHING? What will Lodi look like when Blair King finally leaves?

I applaud your efforts to bring these issues to the table. My only concern is that by staying anonymous, you don't have as much credence with the public. If I may suggest, organize a group of your fellow workers that share your concerns and bring this forward as a group. It will be more difficult for the City to dismiss you as a group than as a sole anonymous blogger.

I just want to reiterate what the previous commenter said. You will lend credibility to your statements by setting forth the objectionable facts as well as your identity. Rally as a group if possible. If you won't stand up for what you believe, maybe it's time to move on.

I notice the two previous contributors chose to remain anonymous too. What is your identity?

blair king says his door is open but people who have taken him up on this have lived to regret it

As a former city employee I can assure you it is better not to have your name on any criticism of City practices. I no longer work there and the thought of doing so still makes me nervous.
As for multiple workers being more credible. City hall can make life miserable for a hundred as they can for a single person. That goes right on down through the supers as well.

Not only is your entire blog anonymous, but your comments are vague and unsubstantiated.

If you want to be taken seriously, then show people proof of your claims. There are proper ways to be an anonymous whistleblower, but this is not one of them.

Until then, this looks like another venue for T&C to make useless noise.

blair king and his assistant krueger just want to fire people. it is obvious to everyone who has had the "pleasure" of working with them. only a fool would make his identity known.

there has been no shortage of city employee groups coming forward in public to complain about king and his administration. king doesn't care and he goes after anyone who stands up to him. what's worse is the city council apparently doesn't care either. this issue will not go away until it is resolved, one way or the other. maybe the lodi news can do an investigation to see how valid these complaints are.

The Sentinel won't do anything but ignore this because they are in bed with King and the city council!

yea, hood was the only reporter who was independent, now he's in king's pocket. our only hope is getting one more city councilman to see what's happening.

first they need to ax kruger

Actually Krueger may be the biggest problem. No one trusts him or will negotiate with him.

As a former city employee I urge you NOT to step forward until you have another job lined up. I speak from experience, you are no safer in a group of employees than on your own. The philosophy at Lodi City Hall is pick them off one at a time, you'll still be the last one standing and then you'll rue your fate. I watched other employees who had been similarly mistreated jump ship one by one until I was the only one left willing to say anything. They got there way, I left. Just make sure you get yours before you leave. Poor leadership in Lodi and most of its departments is just a way of life.

Well I guess we know where the local paper stands when it comes to city employees. Maybe they have forgotten that many of their subscribers are the same city employees they could care less about.

If the citizens of Lodi and the Lodi City Council don't get that something is wrong with Blair King and Jim Krueger after all of the employees and citizens that have complained over these past few months, then they get exactly what they deserve: higher rates, less service, employees who have low morale and don't give a damn about the city or its citizens.

It works both ways, you want to be treated nice when you go the city counter to pay a bill, then you damn well better be nice back.

Interesting blog here. While I have my concerns about King & Krueger today's LNS Op-Ed column does ask one very important question: How can we have the city operate without raising taxes? Borrow money? I think the city learned it's lesson with Leaman Bros.

Simple economics my anonymous friends; cut operating costs (labor mainly) & expenditures. With the economy on the downside we can not expect the same services since the revenue stream (sales tax) is way down.

Now this will not fly with the city employees, and especially their unions. IMO, the unions have negotiated very good contracts. Now if they want to enjoy all of the great pay, benis, & retitement they need to look long term as well. It will probably benefit them to renegotiate now.

Who is the next City Dept Mgr to leave/retire/fired? You know that top brass has their eye on someone, but not many left.

There is no question about the economy being flat and many city revenues declining. The city may be in tough shape, but we won't know until the fiscal year end numbers are known. We have been in a financial crisis ever since King got her, but each year the city has managed to stuff millions of dollars into reserves, which is good. But now that that city's bank account is fat and the economy is lean, one would think that careful use of those reserves to balance the budget in the short term would be prudent.
The city's reserves have been built up as a result of attrition. How low can the city go and still function?
All of that said, King's biggest problem is his assistant, who lies every time he opens his mouth. If he can't do it himself then King needs someone who will truthfully represent the city to the public and employees.
King and Krueger have no credibility and King desperately needs it.

Why is the city in financial trouble? Let's think. How about paying 34 million + - dollars in court and attorney fees to fix a 12 million dollar water polution problem. Council city hall all had a hand in that. Now we pay more for everything. Government at work. Sure glad we have such stong minds working for the taxpayers.
